The Great Pyramid at Giza.

Hello everyone!

Tonight we leave a post about the Great Pyramid at Giza.

The Great Pyramid of Giza is, as its name suggests, in Giza, Egypt. She was named one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and from the Seven, is the only one still standing nowadays.

The Great Pyramid at Giza / Keops' Pyramid
With a maximum height of 146, 61 meters, beating the Pyramid of Khafre and Menkaure, is the highest of the pyramids from the necropolis on the outskirts of Cairo and was the highest construction until the fourteenth century, and the biggest stone construction until the nineteenth century. Needing around 2,300,000 blocks of about two and a half tons of weight each, was built by the chaty or chief magistrate Hemiunu during the reign of Cheops, also called Khufu (s. XXVI a. C.) to become his future tomb or cenotaph.

The outside of the pyramid was originally covered with polished limestone which remained so until an earthquake in the early fourteenth century detached part of the lining of limestone and what remained was subsequently used for the realization of other buildings.

Regarding the inside of the pyramid, this consists of The Great Gallery, ventilation channels and three main galleries, the King's Chamber, the Queen's Chamber and the Subterranean Chamber, among others.
The King's Chamber
It must be said that some of the cameras are there to support the weight of the upper ones, avoiding that all the weight falls in just one place. Regarding the King's Chamber and the Queen's Chamber, we should mention that although bearing that name, there was never any king or queen inside them. In the first one, only an empy stone sarcophagus was found, and the second turned out to be of the same kind.

Thus, as there was no mummy in the pyramid (or anywhere else), since they are all found in the Valley of the Kings, we might think that these pyramids are simply memorials and not tombs.

The Queen's Chamber
In any case, the pyramids are still being investigated and are the centre of debates today, so its function or purpose is not clear yet.

So, we leave you with the question of the true function of the pyramid. What do you think it is?, a tomb or a monument?.

Leave your comments with the answer to the question!

See you!
